2014 Wedding Trends

Essence Entertainment read a number of articles regarding the Wedding Trends for 2014 and a few ideas stick out…

Wedding Colors:

According to the Huffington Post and the Bridal Guide, PINK is back!!  Do you already feel like a blushing bride? Carry that sweet love over to your color scheme, says Tara Guérard, the event designer behind ultra-luxe Soirée in Charleston and New York. “It’s the nudes, the blushes, the peaches — not Pepto Bismol pink!” she announces.

Bridal Guide adds, The romance of the outdoors inspires West Coast brides. “I’m working in natural colors — creams, ivory, oatmeals,” says Beth Helmstetter of Beth Helmstetter Events in Los Angeles. “If we’re going more glamorous, brides love pops of gold right now.”

Metallics are huge!” Tara agrees. She’s seeing gold sugar stripes on wedding cakes, linens shot through with gold thread and one of her favorite looks — the subtle luxury of pale gold lampshades.

I read a couple of articles which stated that purple is still in, event though it was big last year.

colorFirst Choice Magazine weighs in:  the color of the year is Radiant Orchid. Hemlock, Cayenne, Sand, Paloma, Freesia, Purple Haze, and Dazzling Blue round out the most popular shades. Navy and royal blue are also hot colors for 2014.

They go on to agree that pinks, nudes, blushes and peaches are also big.

To hashtag or not to hashtag?

That is always a question, and according to wedding expert Rita Moore of La Valencia in San Diego, couples these days either unplug altogether from social media during the wedding – or go the opposite direction and make it a major element throughout. The #socialmedia #wedding includes selfies of every moment, a special #hashtag just for the wedding, and special pages or albums on Instagram, Facebook and beyond.

More than one article mentioned that many brides are requesting the event to be “unplugged”, to the extent that they kindly ask that everyone leave their phone at the Phone Check station…they don’t want the distraction, nor the wedding to be inundated with social media coverage.

On the contrary,  you can hire a Social Media Concierge – This is something for that couple that loves to over share every detail of their life on social media. This is a hired professional that will live tweet, update facebook and twitter, share pics and videos via instagram and Vine. Oh and these people don’t come cheap.

The After-Party

ABC News, among others, reports that the After-Party is gaining popularity:  Since wedding receptions tend to be for the whole family, planned after-parties are a popular way for the bride and groom to celebrate with friends late into the night. “After the cake is cut and the old folks go home, couples are organizing personalized after-parties in VIP lounges, special tents, or hotel suites, so they can keep the party going,” says Karen Bussen of Palladium Hotel Group.

It wouldn’t be surprising if even ecstatic newlyweds would show some signs of wear, like this groom, after partying all night!

 

Have you been to a Networking Meeting lately?

Over the past few months I’ve made an effort to attend quite a few Networking Meetings – I’m not only having a great time, I’m meeting lots of people, learning a lot, getting great feedback, and expanding my horizons!!

In this economy, especially, it is so important to continue to network and communicate with people.  What’s particularly important to remember is…it’s not who you know, it’s who they (people you know and/or meet) know…!

Many of us are uncomfortable in a ‘networking’ situation – it’s hard to develop that ‘elevator pitch’ or 30-second intro that explains who you are, what you do, why you do it, and what you’re looking for.  However, it could be the most important thing you do for yourself and/or your business.

People buy from who they know, like and trust.

That said, JUST DO IT!  Get out of your comfort zone!  Practice your ‘intro’ or ‘elevator pitch’ or whatever you want to call it.

Then ask your friends and colleagues if they can recommend any Networking Meetings or opportunities.  And when you get invited to one…GO!

There are many styles of meetings and groups – you MUST go to at least three (3) different meetings before you decide which type of meeting you like and if these meetings are ‘for you’ or not.

  • Some meetings are purely ‘pass out your card/sell your stuff/meet other business owners’ – which for some is what you want.  City Chamber of Commerce Meetings is one of many options.  Get out and meet other business owners in your area!
  • Some meetings have a goal or purpose – for example, Women’s Business Connections (I attended a meeting this morning) is all about Referrals – it’s supporting each others businesses by providing high quality and mass quantity of referrals to each other, and building relationships.  WBC is a really great group of women entrepreneurs.
  • Some meetings are meant to expose you to new ideas or increase your knowledge – for instance, SMMOC (Social Media Mastermind Orange County) meets to share knowledge, tips and ‘new stuff’ about Social Media Marketing (I went to the meeting last Saturday – very interesting!  Learned a lot!).  This group actually discourages traditional ‘networking’ during the meeting to preserve it’s true goal of sharing information. (Of course, you can hang around afterwards and exchange cards.)

There are numerous websites that can help you find Networking Meetings in your area and/or groups who share your interests.  One example is MeetUp.  You can search by topic, by locale, or by name.  You can even start your own group!

Do yourself a favor – as with social media marketing, get involved!  These days the one-on-one relationships and getting to know people you can refer and who will refer you is very important for success…in any area!

This applies to those of you who do not own a business…if you are a Student, if you have a Hobby or Craft, if you’d like to know what’s going on in your area, if you’d like to find other social outlets…lots of great things to do in a Networking Meeting or Group!

MPI-OC October Event Hosted by Fairmont Newport Beach

Wednesday, October 5th, found us at the Fairmont Newport Beach Hotel attending the Meeting Professionals International – Orange County Chapter (MPI-OC) October 2011 Event.  Wow – what fun!

The Staff at Fairmont NB outdid themselves and hosted a terrific event…quote “…they’ve set the bar very high!”   A lively 1920’s theme was accentuated by the Dave Eastly Jazz Trio (Upright Bass, Guitar, Violin) which played for Cocktails out in the Foyer, then moved inside the Ballroom and played throughout Dinner.  To further enliven the theme, two “Flapper Girls” greeted the Guests during Cocktails.  (Both provided by Essence Entertainment.)

Dinner was highlighted with a quick little “raid” (provided by Fairmont NB Staff), followed by the Keynote Speaker, Patrick O’Malleywww.617-Patrick.com.   Patrick shared his valuable knowledge of and experience with Social Media, and highlighted areas particularly appropriate for the Event Planning industry.  He is an expert particularly with Linkedin, and I learned quite a bit from his presentation.  Thanks, Patrick!

World’s Greatest Marketing Seminar…is really GREAT!

I just finished my third day (out of five) of Peak Potential’s World’s Greatest Marketing Seminar here in Los Angeles, CA.

All I can say is…WOW!  We are being exposed to, learning, and doing so many new and wonderful things in the world of marketing…which, as we  all know, is a very new world, especially with respect to Social Media.  To quote this evening’s presenter, Joel Roberts, Impact Specialist, our world is “noisy and crowded” and we have to be heard above the din.  (Joel’s presentation was AMAZING!)

Just today we covered so many things…important points of successful copy-writing; answering the question, “So, what do you do?” quickly and concisely; the art of getting to the point about what we do, why we do it, and how we go about it (people won’t buy from us if it’s not clear what we are offering)…my head is spinning in big, beautiful circles!!

I look forward to applying as many of these techniques as I possibly can to my work with Essence Entertainment as well as all other aspects of my life – very valuable tools and processes!

Because our world is changing so drastically with regards to marketing and social media, I encourage each and every one of you to take a seminar, read a book, attend a lecture…anything that will help you ‘keep up’ and not get lost.  Otherwise it can feel overwhelming and be paralyzing.  It’s not rocket science (many things are really ‘common sense’ when you break it down) – but it sure helps to get instruction from industry leaders who know how to be successful at it!

Now go and take action – take a course, read a Blog…and participate!!

Essence Entertainment Always Learning

Mike and I are continuing our education!  In an effort to better ourselves and the efficiency and efficacy of Essence Entertainment, we attended a couple of terrific classes this weekend.

On Saturday, September 17th, 2011, Robin attended Blogging for Fun and Profit, and Mike attended Secrets of Social Media and Internet Marketing.  Both classes were offered at Saddleback College and were taught by Robert “Bob” Cohen (bobology.com).

I, for one, enjoyed Bob’s class and picked up some new tools & tidbits.  I’m looking forward to studying the Workbook in greater detail and applying what I’ve learned.  I also purchased one of Bob’s CDs – Creating and Marketing YouTube Videos – can’t wait to check it out!

I will also spend this entire week attending World’s Greatest Marketing Seminar – offered by Peak Potentials.  I look forward to sharing with you what I learn!

I encourage and challenge all of you to constantly continue your education, in any way, shape or form.  We are all capable of so much, and additional education, be it for fun or for business, is so important in our continued growth.  Not to mention it’s very motivating and fun!

YouTube is becoming a very accessible resource for learning about almost anything…How To’s, general information, etc.

Attached is an article about using the power of YouTube in marketing strategy…it will especially appeal to any of you who are interested in Dance and Ballet!  To quote an excerpt:  “…YouTube is a huge opportunity to educate the general public about ballet and hopefully get them more interested in the arts!”
